How does CarrierOk API pricing work?

CarrierOk API pricing is consumption-based — you pay only for the carriers you look up. Start free in the sandbox with fixture data for 10 carriers and no card required. When you activate live access, your activation charge is applied as usage credit, and from there you're billed per unique DOT number per month, with separate rates for full profiles, lite profiles, carrier monitoring, and autocomplete queries. Querying the same DOT any number of times in a month counts as a single charge, and there are no subscriptions, seats, or monthly minimums. Current rates are listed on our pricing page, and high-volume or data-redistribution use is available under a custom Volume & Enterprise agreement.

Yes — CarrierOk's API can be embedded into customer-facing products including underwriting platforms, safety dashboards, logistics tools, and CRMs. Internal and customer-facing use is covered by standard pay-as-you-go access. Redistributing or reselling the raw data requires a Volume & Enterprise agreement scoped to your use case. Most teams prototype for free in the sandbox, switch to live data when they're ready, and only talk to us if they need redistribution rights or negotiated volume rates.

CarrierOk refreshes carrier data multiple times daily from FMCSA, NHTSA, and state licensing sources, with automatic fallback to alternate sources when one is unavailable. On top of this foundation, CarrierOk applies proprietary intelligence layers — including chameleon carrier signals and insurance instability scoring — that are continuously refined and not available from government sources directly.

Are there rate limits or usage caps?

There's no monthly request cap to run out of. Live API keys carry per-minute rate limits per endpoint, which exist to floor your worst-case spend and stop runaway scripts, not to force an upgrade. If you hit a limit in normal operation, you can raise it yourself or contact us. Usage is billed against a threshold that steps up as you pay, so steady usage turns into fewer, larger charges rather than many small ones.
