FREIGHT TRANSPORTATION SERVICES INDEX (TSI)
The Freight Transportation Services Index (TSI) is a monthly index measuring the volume of freight carried by the for-hire transportation industry in the United States. This index is seasonally adjusted and reported with a base year of 2000. The components of the Freight TSI include for-hire trucking (excluding parcel services), freight railroad services (including rail-based intermodal shipments like containers on flat cars), inland waterway traffic, pipeline movements (primarily involving petroleum and natural gas), and air freight.

It's important to note that the Freight TSI does not encompass international or coastal steamship movements, private trucking, courier services, or the United States Postal Service. This index provides insights into the freight transportation sector's performance and is a useful tool for understanding economic trends related to freight movement.
The data for this index is collected by the U.S. Department of Transportation, Bureau of Transportation Statistics.
